Privacy policy

The short version

Your audio never leaves your device. The sound meter analyses the microphone signal in real time inside your browser. We do not record, store, transmit or have access to any sound.

Microphone access

Your browser asks for permission before the microphone is used. You can revoke permission at any time in your browser settings. The microphone is only active while the meter is running, and it stops as soon as you press Stop or leave the page.

Data stored on your device

We use your browser’s local storage to remember your preferences (such as theme, weighting, alert level and calibration offsets). This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Measurement exports

CSV files and snapshot images are generated locally and downloaded directly to your device. When you use Share, the content is handed to your device’s share sheet; we do not receive it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used (for example, which pages are visited and whether the meter starts successfully). Analytics never includes audio or measurement values that could identify you. Google’s use of this data is governed by theGoogle Privacy Policy.

Advertising

This site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or learn more atHow Google uses information from sites that use its services. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message where required.

Children

The site is suitable for general audiences, including classroom use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
